Established in 2004 by the Hydrogen Education Foundation, the Contest showcases the talents of students in many disciplines, including engineering, architecture, marketing, and entrepreneurship. Phase II Deadline Coming Closer, Teams Receive Evaluations

Today, the teams competing in the 2012-2013 Hydrogen Student Design Contest received the evaluation of their Phase I entries, providing them with important feedback for the development of their final submission.

11 university teams are competing in the second round of the 2012-2013 Hydrogen Student Design Contest, featuring universities from 5 countries and the U.S. The teams represent:

  • University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy
  • Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur
  • Kyushu University, Japan
  • National United University, Taiwan
  • Ming Dao University
  • DTC from the Universities of Birmingham, Nottingham and Loughborough UK
  • Stark State University
  • Missouri University of Science and Technology
  • Kettering University
  • Mississippi State University
  • Florida International University

2012-2013 Contest Registration Deadline Extended to October 15, Online Briefing for Teams Announced
Additional time allows students to attend webinar and recruit team members

WASHINGTON, DC - September 28, 2012 - Today, the Hydrogen Education Foundation announced that the registration deadline for the 2012-2013 Hydrogen Student Design Contest has been extended to October 15.

The Contest will conduct an online briefing on October 9, 2012, 1 PM ET. This webinar will provide prospective student teams with information on the Contest, guide them through individual sections, and answer questions. Department of Energy and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory Sponsor 2012-2013 Contest

The 2012-2013 Hydrogen Student Design Contest welcomes the renewed support of DOE and NREL for the annual Contest. The Department of Energy has been supporting the Contest since its inception in 2004 and allows undergrad and graduate students to get hands-on experience on innovative clean energy technologies. Department of Energy Hosts Webinar Featuring Hydrogen Student Design Contest Winners 
September 4 Webinar Will Focus on "On-Campus Tri-Generation Fuel Cell Systems"

The Energy Department supported by the Hydrogen Education Foundation will present a live webinar titled "2011 - 2012 Hydrogen Student Design Contest Winners: On-Campus Tri-Generation Fuel Cell Systems" on Tuesday, September 4 at 12 PM ET. This webinar will focus on the winning entries from the University of Maryland; Washington State University; and University of California, Davis.

The theme for the Hydrogen Education Foundation's 2012-2013 Contest, sponsored by Mercedes-Benz and Toyota, will also be presented. Review the webinar >>.


Theme of the 2012-2013 Hydrogen Student Design Contest Announced
Students will focus on developing a Hydrogen Fueling Infrastructure in the Northeast United States

The challenge for student teams is to create a feasible plan for the implementation of a hydrogen infrastructure, using only commercially available technology, designed to facilitate fuel cell vehicle travel within and between major urban areas in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Read more >>
