The Hydrogen Education Foundation is pleased to announce the selection of the 2008-2009 Hydrogen Student Design Contest theme: A Green Building with Hydrogen! HEF staff has chosen a proposal that will focus on designing a green dormitory utilizing a hydrogen system for electricity supply. The design will be intended for the State University of New York - Farmingdale, but will be applicable for other locations.
Our nation is faced with an energy crisis and hydrogen is poised to play an extremely important role in our energy future. Students will be challenged to design an energy-efficient residential building for students at SUNY-Farmingdale, located on Long Island, NY. The designs must include use of renewable resources to produce hydrogen for energy supply of the dorm. Teams will be judged based upon overall cost and return on investment, energy efficiency and emissions reductions at the school, technical accuracy of engineering of the hydrogen, use of renewable energy, and overall building systems including architectural design. Students will also be asked to develop a marketing campaign for the University to help educate students about the building and attract public attention for the new construction.
